Steven Seifert had a great introduction to printing when he was young, riding his ten speed to his dad’s print shop, Value Litho, in Long Island. Steve grew up with is sisters in New Hyde Park and after school would ride over to the shop and pitch in where he could – sometimes working in the film room or clearing the cutting area using a snow shovel and wheelbarrow. It was a family affair with his sisters helping shrink wrap huge jobs. He has great memories and really enjoyed his time there.
His father, Emil Seifert, purchased a Pip Printing in Greenwich on West Putnam Avenue. Steven by that time was enrolled at Farmingdale College and would commute to Greenwich. Learning about Graphic Design and the business was invaluable to his next step, going to work full time with his dad running presses, working the light table and waxer. They had some devoted accounts back then: Cusinart, American Can, UPS Corp and Titan Sports (The precurser to WWF and the now WWE).
The opportunity came to purchase the 878 Main Street, Stamford based print shop, on the east side of town, upon the death of its owner. Charlie Aorio was a great team member back then as a strong press man though his passion was performing. Steve might get a call that he had an audition, but always made it work to keep things going. Steve shifted to running the counter, keeping the business humming and meeting with customers. At that time they had numerous car dealer ships, Grade A – Shoprite, Prime Resources and more. When they grew out of their 600 square feet, a spot came up on the other side of the railroad bridge at 902 East Main. This was quite an upgrade. They stayed there for 15 years.
In 2011, a 3,600 square feet spot on 330 Fairfield Avenue was available on the west side of Stamford. Steve knew with the new equipment he wanted to purchase and the added need for large format printing, this space would be perfect. Now they had plenty of room for paper inventory and all the machines that would take them into the future. Their most recent purchase was a Konica Biz Hub, the digital press of the future and a fantastic modern heat press for apparel customization. If you have a couple of hours to kill, ask Steve about it! See you soon at SP&G.
